Presentations in English. How To Feel Comfortable Answering Questions In English
We are all doing lots more online meetings and presentations using platforms like Zoom, Teams and Webex. And it’s normal that we all get a little nervous answering questions in English in an online presentation or online meeting.
So what can you do?
?? Lots of professionals we have helped need extra practice and training to prepare themselves to feel more comfortable answering questions in English in meetings and presentations.
(And check out our short video and read the 6 tips from our training).
(** by the way I really like the new option of ‘news presenter option for powerpoints presentations‘ on Teams which makes your presentations a lot more dynamic and interactive for you and your audience).
How To Feel Comfortable Answering Questions In English
?? In the video I explain 6 tips from our training to help you:
- Buying Time – sometimes we just need more time to think of how to answer.
E.g. “If I understand you correctly what you are saying is…, is that right?”.
- Clarifying and simplifying questions – ask them to simplify their question.
E.g. “I don’t follow your question, can you explain it in a different way please?”. “Can you simplify your question please?”.
- Connect with your audience and help them –
E.g. the Q&A session is an opportunity for you to help the audience and connect with them.
4) Anticipate questions
E.g. brainstorm a list of 7 questions and put them in order of ‘most likely to be asked’. Then prepare answers to these questions.
5) Use your voice
E.g. our voice can transmit calmness, enthusiasm and energy. Practice using your voice.
6) Practice answering questions
E.g. practice answering difficult questions by recording yourself speaking (video or audio). Focus both on “what you say” and “how you say it”, then give yourself feedback on what you do well and what you need to improve. And ask a friend, colleague, trainer to also give you feedback.
I hope it helps! Christopher 🙂
